THE SPIRIT OF AN OVERCOMER (1 John 4:4).
Overcomers, that’s who God says
we are, not only that, He says we’re “more than
conquerors”(Romans 8:37). But
when we come face to face with certain circumstances or afflictions,
we tend to forget about it, mostly due to fear and doubt. And instead
of us overcoming them, it ends up otherwise. Then we start blaming
God, questioning God, even though we’re the ones at fault; our
morale drop, we start feeling like losers. God says we’re
overcomers, and as we now, He doesn’t lie, He’s poured out upon
us “the spirit of an ovrcomer. The problem is that we feed our
flesh and its desires/ lusts more than we do the spirit in us, making
us vulnerable to the devil’s attacks. But when we feed the spirit
by the Word, and a righteous lifestyle, we stand a great chance
against the devil and his cohorts. We become like Samson was in
Judges14:9 And
the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion as
he would have torn a goat; and nothing was in his hand. But he did
not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
When
we feed our spirit sufficiently, no matter how much suffering,
afflictions or hardships the devil brings against us, we’ll always
make it to the end as Victors… The more we overcome, the more we
become a terror to the devil, and a vessel, a weapon in God’s
hands. And with every battle won, we’ll definitely have our
spoils/ rewards in this life, and in that to come (the millennial
reign).
Our weaknesses are our greatest
battles, and they’re what make the difference between the Perfect
Christ, and the imperfect us. To overcome these, He’s given us His
ever amazing and sufficient grace.
2
Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me,
My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in
weakness. Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses,
that the power of Christ may overshadow me.
But the thing is some of us have so mingled in a life of sin and its pleasures, that we now see the Christian life as boring and confined. Yes it might be boring, but at least it’s a wonderful and happy life, and our happiness comes from within, the joy of the Lord, which gives us strength to overcome. And yes, our lives might look confined, but isn’t it better to live a “few years of confinement and suffering here on earth” and “1000 years of freedom and pleasure in heaven”; than living “a few years of worldly pleasures and freedom” and “1000 years of suffering and confinement in hell”? Don’t be foolish, choose wisely! Overcome your weaknesses, they’re not worth losing a life of Eternal Glory over.
Romans 8:18
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are
not worthy to be compared
with the coming glory to be revealed in us.
Don’t dull the overcomer’s
spirit in you, feed it by the Word, and through a righteous
lifestyle, and activate it through faith and prayer. And don’t let
the devil scare you, he’s only as strong as your weaknesses and the
attention you pay him.
You overcome not by power, nor by
might, but by the Spirit of the Lord. (Zechariah
4:6)
1 John 5:4
For everything that has been born of God overcomes the world. And
this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.
1Corinthians
10:13 (No temptation has taken you
but what is
common to man); but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are
able, but with the temptation also will make a way to escape, so that
you may be able to bear it.
